A week of firsts

Well I have nothing too profound or heartfelt to write tonight. I am just having a week of first time experiences. For example, this week was the first time I ever got injured at work and had to fill out an accident report. Tonight was the first time I ever got pulled over by the cops in my own parking lot. They were behind me when I pulled in. I turned around for a parking spot. I sat in my car and saw them circle the lot twice. They came back and shined their flashlights on me as I was sitting in my car talking to my mom on the phone. They questioned me about what I was doing and asked if I were ok. They also asked if I lived in the complex. I guess they know sketchy people when they see them :). It is also my first week of classes, meaning it is my first week of my last week of grad school. Tomorrow will be my first time driving to NYC and JFK airport (AAAHHHHHHH). This weekend will be my first time flying to Chicago to see my old roommate Lauren. So in the midst of these firsts, it's important to remember to put Christ first in all I do :)

The Tale of Two Tires

So I have a car story to tell but it's not as exciting as it could have been. I basically follow the motto: "If it aint broke, don't fix it". Well last year in October after I crashed my car into a tree and finally got it back after 6 weeks in the shop, I took it to Pep Boys to have the brakes done (they are what casued the tree crashage in the first place). At that time I was told to get two new tires because they would never pass inspection. Like I said I believe in "If it aint broke don't fix it" so i decided to wait to see if my car would pass with its current tires. It did so I did not buy new tires 10 months ago. Well at the end of June my mom and I were driving to Baltimore and my car was shaking badly and my brakes were really bad too. My mom was freaked out and I was a little bit too. I got the brakes fixed because my car was fishtailing when I hit the brakes and I did not feel like crashing into anything again. I went to the same Pep Boys and they recommended some work with the tires. I chose not to let them do it because they had messed my brakes up. They always try to get you to spend more money. My car was still shaking if I drove over 75. So i sucked it up and drove only 70 on the highway. Everytime I drove to fast it felt like my car was going to blow up. I was told by many people that my tire was flat at least once a week. I would go to put air in it (free at Wawa) and continue on my merry way. I drove this way for close to two months. My managers always told me my tire was flat, my neighbor left a note on my car, and I was even flagged down once by someone driving behind me. I would go and fill the tire until the next time it became flat. I decided to wait until Sept or Oct when my inspection is due. I had been driving long distances on it for most of the summer too. Well on Sat I went to put air in it before I left for NY. I looked at my tire and it looked like it was splitting around the edges. It didn't concern me at the time so I filled it with air and drove to NY on it. On my way up I had images of my tire bursting open and me losing control of the car. This didn't concern me too much either. At lunch the next day I casually mentioned my splitting tire to my family. They freaked out and told me I could have been killed. I still wasn't too concerned. We went outside to look at the tire. My dad and bro-in-law Josh noticed that both passenger side tires had NO treads. Josh said that the wire in the back one was starting to come through. I became a little concerned and said I would fix it this week in Philly. Josh repeated that my wire was poking through and I needed to fix it before the drive back. My parents took it to get fixed. So I had to pay for two new tires. The amazing thing is the difference in gas mileage. On the way to NY (with the bad tires) I used a little over 3/4 tank of gas. On the way back to Philly (with the good tires), I used a little over 1/4 tank of gas. Amazing huh? My car also doesn't shake anymore. It's amazing that the shaking was caused by bad tires. It's also amazing that God protected me from a bursting/exploding tire. That would have been bad.

Pick up the pot

This is a story that happened a few days ago but has yet to be told. I was baby-sitting for a family from my preschool who was/is in the process of moving to.........AUGUSTA, GA. (cool, huh Jess?). I had borrowed a pot (actually two) from a co-worker of Lynette's but I had forgotten the pots at their almost empty house. I called them and asked them to leave them outside of their house for me because they planned to be gone from the house by the evening for good. I went there after work at about 12:30 a.m. I saw their cars there and a whole bunch of lights on. They were supposed to be staying with her mother that night. I couldn't help but think that they were still there cleaning and needed help. I decided to ring the doorbell and help them out. BAD IDEA. The father started to come to the door in his underwear....and yes they were briefs. I immediately hid, but too late......he had said my name. I waited there for an eternity while he opened the door. I wanted to die while I waited for him. i wanted to turn around and leave. I knew there was no escape though because he had seen me. He had to turn the alarm off and of course he came back with shorts on. He led me to my pots that were out back and I apologized over and over again for disturbing them so late. I justed wanted to help out because I thought they were still working on the house. So all you ladies who are married...don't let your husbands answer the door in their underwear because you never know who may be on the other side. I learned a valuable lesson that night: If it's in the middle of the night don't try to help out...just pick up the pot.

Warm fuzzies

I just want to let y'all know that you give me warm fuzzies all over. Tonight was a lot of fun. It was great having everyone back together again. I love our group of friends. You are all so special to me. Jess, too bad you missed it. It was nothing more than hanging out and talking and singing praise and worship songs but it was so much fun. You'll have to make the trip up from Georgia next time. I also hope the wedding went well and I'm sure you are beat right now. So thanks again for a great evening. I love you guys.

Friday (otra vez)

Ok so let's meet at our place around 7 and decide about VF after that. It would definitely be smart to go after dark because it is so hot. Becca, bring your guitar. I think that's a brilliant idea. Nikki and Allen are going to stop by for a little but don't want to stay too late because they leave Sat am. Jess, you would love VF and if you ever make it up North we will take you there. So I'll see everyone tomorrow.
